The Latest and Greatest in Home and Garden Trends

Here’s a quick snapshot of some of the trends we’re seeing in 2021:

Using Online Resources for DIY Education

With more people spending time at home, many of us have taking the leap to try new hobbies—and home improvement projects are no exception! From restoring old furniture to trying to become expert gardeners, there has been a lot of opportunity take matters into your own hands to enhance your home and garden.

The Des Moines Home + Garden Show is a great opportunity to access all that expertise you’ve been finding online and getting a chance to have a conversation with experts in-person. If you found yourself struggling with a project or just want to see what additional ideas are out there, this is the place to be.

And while it’s always great to try to tackle projects on your own, there are home and garden projects where it’s best to call in the experts, and that’s exactly what you’ll find at the show.

Learning Opportunities for Kids

It’s not just the adults spending time at home, but kids have been trying to find unique ways to stay busy and active at home, too. Even as school and other activities start to get back up and running, this past year showed us how beneficial it is to give kids the opportunity to do help out and do hands-on activities to teach them about managing a home.

Whether it’s having them help plant and maintain a garden or flowers, letting them measure and help with building projects, or simply talking them through the process and having a conversation about the process—home and garden projects are a great way to get the kids involved.

Creating a Space that Matches Your Needs

The latest designs and styles are always fun to see and consider, but it’s also important to create an environment that is beneficial and useful for you. With more people working from home, it’s also critical to make sure you have a working space where you can effectively and comfortably get your work projects done, too.

Raised Garden Beds

Access to food was a big concern at the beginning of the pandemic and some homeowners took action into their own hands by installing their own gardens. A big trend heading into 2021 are raised garden beds, which make it a lot easier to weed, harvest and keep an eye on it without having to kneel down or harm your back bending over. It can also help keep those pesky creatures away.
